Epilepsy is the second most lethal neurological disease, affecting 50 million people around the globe. Patients with epilepsy, if not diagnosed and treated, can present several electric discharges on their brain, known as seizures. The biggest challenge in seizure diagnosis is its time for detection, that can vary from hours to days. However, 30 minutes of ongoing seizure leads to 20% of chances of death. The diagnosis is done with an exam called electroencephalogram (EEG), which, according to neurophysiologists we interviewed, are a digital hell. They say it’s old, ineffective, adds unnecessary time for the diagnosis and are also too expensive. That is why we created Neurogram. Neurogram is the first 100% online EEG platform that enables the exam to be shared with the doctor within seconds, it is intuitive and designed for the neurophysiologist, that can open any EEG exam with any device with internet access (HIPAA compliant). We also developed an artificial intelligence able to detect epileptiform paroxysms in EEG scans within 3 seconds with 97% accuracy. We are testing and performing clinical trials in the biggest neurology clinic in Londrina, Brazil and soon, it will be available in Neurogram’s platform for rapid seizure detection.
